Keeping the summer glow

Films and books are an amazing way of feeling the warmth of summers past, especially if they are combined. Here are some of my favourites that have stood the test of time, for me. Enjoy!

Best beach companion ever!

Jaws (1975)

When a killer shark unleashes mayhem on a little coast town depending on holiday tourists to survive, it is up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist and an old seaman to overrule the mayor and hunt the beast down. But it comes at a cost.

Beautiful, engaging and harsh

Stand by Me (1986)

Four boys on the edge of manhood have a last summer outing; rumour has it that a body has been discovered in the woods. They are not the only ones looking though, and during the trip, both enemies and a loss of innocence occur.

Brilliant, romantic and heartwarming

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

Jamal is a penniless orphan from the slums of Mumbai and one question away from winning a fortune in television’s biggest quiz show. He is arrested on suspicion of cheating, because how can an eighteen-year-old uneducated man know so many answers?

Wonderful, funny and wise

Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)

Seven elderly brits are going to India to spend their autumn years in a palace. The reality is quite different, and their individual reactions force them all to go outside their everyday routines and behaviour. Maybe the end can be a new beginning.
